'Permanent Special Prosecutor for Insurrection' Investigation Request Passed in National Assembly Plenary Session (Update)

The National Assembly plenary session passed the permanent special prosecutor's investigation request regarding President Yoon Suk-yeol's charges of rebellion on the 10th.


On that day, the National Assembly held a plenary session in the afternoon and approved the "Special Prosecutor's Investigation Request for the Truth-Finding of Rebellion Acts through the Unconstitutional Emergency Martial Law Proclamation," which was passed the previous day by the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee led by the opposition party, with 210 votes in favor, 63 against, and 13 abstentions out of 287 members present.


The permanent special prosecutor's request includes 11 investigations related to President Yoon's emergency martial law. Specifically, these include △ allegations that President Yoon commanded the rebellion by proclaiming unconstitutional and illegal emergency martial law that does not meet the requirements of emergency martial law △ suspicions of active involvement by Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun in recommending the unconstitutional and illegal emergency martial law proclamation △ allegations against General Park An-su, the Martial Law Commander, for announcing the unconstitutional Martial Law Command Headquarters' proclamation and deploying military units to the National Assembly.


In the subcommittee review of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee led by the opposition party the previous day, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, People Power Party floor leader Choo Kyung-ho, and former Chief of the Defense Counterintelligence Command Yeo In-hyung were also added to the investigation targets.
