The Yeokdong urban planning road, which opened on this day, began construction in October 2023. Starting near Gyeonggi Gwangju CGV, it has a total length of 310 meters and a width of 8 meters, with a total project cost of 8.9 billion KRW.
This project was promoted to disperse the heavy traffic volume in the Yeokdong area and to create a pleasant residential environment.
In particular, the Yeokdong urban planning road opened on this day is located in an area densely populated with existing shops and villas. Installing a center line was expected to cause frequent center line interruptions, leading to driver confusion. Therefore, the city decided on the pavement pattern through continuous consultation with the Gwangju Police Station, securing convenience for vehicle entry and exit as well as visibility of driving directions for drivers.
Mayor Bang Se-hwan, who attended the opening ceremony, said, “We expect this to greatly contribute to balanced regional development and improvement of citizens’ quality of life by improving the traffic environment in the Yeokdong area and establishing urban infrastructure through road construction.” He added, “We will continue to do our best to expand road traffic infrastructure through ongoing urban planning road projects to ensure there is no inconvenience to citizens.”
