Jeong Myeong-geun, Mayor of Hwaseong, Receives Grand Prize at the 'Republic of Korea Forest Environment Awards'

The Forest Environment Awards is an event hosted by the Forest Environment Forum and the Korea Forest Environment Awards Committee, supported by the Korea Forest Service. It honors individuals who have contributed to responding to climate change and preventing global warming.

The city explained that it received the award in high recognition of its contribution to improving the local forest environment and achieving carbon neutrality through pioneering climate change response policies. The city is establishing a high-density carbon-neutral response infrastructure by creating 'climate response urban forests' in major urban areas and industrial complexes to block pollutants entering living areas and reduce greenhouse gases.

In particular, the city is continuously promoting policies to reduce fine dust and mitigate the heat island effect by developing urban forests such as botanical gardens within the city, providing green infrastructure to citizens.

Mayor Jeong said, "Responding to climate change and environmental crises is no longer a choice but a necessity," adding, "We will take the lead not only in creating urban forests but also in various forest environment policies and initiatives."
