Members of the Democratic Party of Korea in the Hongseong County Council, Chungnam, criticized National Assembly member Kang Seungkyu (Hongseong-Yesan, People Power Party) for not participating in the vote on President Yoon Sukyeol's impeachment bill.
On the 10th, they held a press conference in front of the Hongseong County Council, stating, "It is truly appalling that Representative Kang has abandoned his duty as a lawmaker to uphold the rule of law and establish the values of democracy," and added, "As a representative who should serve the will of the people, Representative Kang must fulfill his responsibilities and obligations, and when the impeachment motion is reintroduced, he should participate in the vote and support it."
They further emphasized, "The Yoon administration's continued deception of the people and actions that undermine the foundation of the nation can no longer be tolerated, and we will respond firmly with impeachment."
Previously, after the impeachment bill was discarded, Representative Kang stated on social media, "Eight years ago, in the face of a crisis that could have destroyed the conservative bloc, our party, even as the ruling party sharing responsibility for the government, failed to unite and ultimately became divided. After two days of consecutive general meetings, we managed to prevent the passage of an impeachment bill in the National Assembly that could have caused another deep wound to the people, and from now on, the government and the ruling party will take responsible measures to stabilize the political situation."
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party's Hongseong-Yesan Regional Committee plans to hold a protest rally in front of Representative Kang's Hongseong office at 5 p.m. on the 13th.
