Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) is on the verge of opening the GTX-A section from Paju Unjeongjungang to Seoul Station and the Gyeongui-Jungang Line. The basic plan for the Goyang Eunpyeong Line has been approved, and the Daejang Hongdae Line station has been confirmed within the Deogeun District, significantly improving the railway transportation network.

Since early this year, the city has formed a dedicated task force (TF) for the GTX-A opening, establishing a linked transportation system between Kintex Station and Daegok Station, and creating and adjusting bus routes to enhance citizen accessibility.

The GTX-A line section from Paju Unjeongjungang to Seoul Station will open on the 28th and start operation from the first train. GTX-A connects a total of 82.1 km with 11 stations, running from Paju Unjeong through Seoul Samseong Station to Hwaseong Dongtan. Kintex Station and Daegok Station in Goyang City will open this time, and Changneung Station will open in line with the development schedule of the Changneung District in the future.

Goyang Special City is strengthening the connection between GTX-A and buses by organizing routes centered on Kintex Station and Daegok Station and starting operations in line with the GTX-A opening. The newly established or adjusted bus dispatch intervals will operate every 15 to 30 minutes according to the GTX-A train schedule to ensure passenger convenience.

First, at Kintex Station, nine routes will be newly established or adjusted, focusing on areas such as Deogi, Tanhyeon, Gajwa, Daehwa, Jungsan, Gobong-dong, and Janghang District, operating a total of 18 routes. Proactively, in December last year, village bus route 091 was split into 091A and 091B, and the 091A route was extended to improve access to Kintex Station from Jungsan-dong. In August, city bus route 55 was adjusted to pass through Juyop-dong and Kintex Station.

Next, in Daehwa and Gajwa areas, route 062 was split into 062A and 062B, and route N007 was adjusted for operation. In Tanhyeon and Deogi areas, routes 066A, 074, and N002 were extended to strengthen connectivity to Kintex Station. Additionally, route N003, circulating between Janghang District and Kintex, will be newly established. Kintex Station will create a temporary parking lot with 88 spaces at the C4 site in time for the opening and plans to create a total of 189 spaces by March next year.

Daegok Station allows transfers to Line 3, Gyeongui-Jungang Line, and Seohae Line, with many existing bus routes operating, so three routes will be newly established or adjusted, operating a total of 17 routes. Route 89 will be extended to pass through Daegok Station as well as Kintex Station, improving accessibility for residents of Haengsin-dong and Neunggok areas. Additionally, route 84 will be newly established to directly connect Pungsan-dong to Daegok Station, and village bus 072B stopping under Daegok Station will also be newly established. Furthermore, the 1000 direct seat bus will add a stop at Daegok Station. Daegok Station currently operates a temporary parking lot with 65 spaces and will open a new transfer parking lot with 226 spaces in time for the opening.

Meanwhile, residents of Deogi-dong, who are relatively close to Unjeongjungang Station on GTX-A, plan to adjust route 67 in consultation with Paju City to enable use of Unjeongjungang Station.

An official from the Goyang Special City Bus Policy Division said, “We have expanded the linked public transportation system by maximizing the use of existing bus routes passing through the relevant areas,” adding, “We will closely analyze the usage status of adjusted bus routes and GTX-A and include it in the bus route reorganization service scheduled for 2025 to prepare additional improvement measures if necessary.”

The Gyeongui-Jungang Line, connecting the northern metropolitan area east to west for 30.3 km from Goyang City to Yangju City and Uijeongbu City, will resume operation this month after 20 years. The reopened stations are Daegok, Wonreung, Ilyeong, Jangheung, Songchu, and Uijeongbu, totaling six locations. Especially, with the opening of GTX-A and the Gyeongui-Jungang Line, Daegok Station will become a key railway transportation hub in the Penta Station area, served by five lines including Line 3, Gyeongui-Jungang Line, and Seohae Line.

The trains will operate with three 5-car sets, running 10 times each in both directions for a total of 20 trips. The fare is 2,600 KRW for the entire section, but for one month after opening, it will be available for 1,000 KRW. Comprehensive test runs have been underway since October, and after completing the paving of railway crossing connecting roads and installation of safety facilities, crossing guards have been assigned. Previously, the city proposed the electrification of the Gyeongui-Jungang Line to be included in the 5th National Railway Network Construction Plan and will conduct a feasibility study for additional stops such as Byeokje Station within this month.

Additionally, the “Goyang Eunpyeong Line Metropolitan Railway Construction Project,” promoted as part of the Goyang Changneung 3rd New Town Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Plan, has received approval for its basic plan. The Goyang Eunpyeong Line is a 15 km metropolitan railway connecting Saejeol Station on Line 6, passing through Changneung District, to Goyang City Hall, with a total of eight stations including three transfer stations such as Line 3. The project plans to select a contractor in the first half of next year, start construction in 2026, and open in 2031.

Furthermore, the Daejang Hongdae Line station in the Goyang section will be installed within the Deogeun District. The Daejang Hongdae Line runs about 20 km from Bucheon Daejang District through Deogeun District to Seoul Hongdae, taking a total of 27 minutes. Among the 12 stations, four transfer stations are Wonjong Station (Seohae Line), Hwagok Station (Line 5), Gayang Station (Line 9), and Hongdaeipgu Station (Line 2, Airport Railroad, Gyeongui-Jungang Line). The target opening year is 2030, and it is expected to greatly improve convenience for citizens.

Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang Special City said, “Once GTX-A and the Gyeongui-Jungang Line start running soon, commuting times will be shortened and fast travel to various places will become a reality,” adding, “We will do our best to finalize inspections of linked transportation infrastructure so that citizens can use the new transportation network more conveniently.”
