Haedeun Museum, Emerging Artists Exhibition II 'Stars Rise'
Highlighting Human and Life Values, Contemporary Visual Art Trends
10 Korean Artists, 55 Paintings on Display
A special exhibition spotlighting 10 promising young Korean artists will be held at an art museum nestled in the beautiful nature of Ganghwado.
Haedeun Museum in Ganghwa-gun, Incheon (Director Park Chunsun) is hosting the 2024 Special Exhibition II "Stars Rise" until the 28th as part of a project to nurture and support young domestic artists. The exhibition is sponsored by the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service. The participating artists include Kwon Hyesung, Kim Seunggyu, Kim Jiyoung, Ryu Hansol, Park Areum, Yoon Yeoseon, Lee Hyesung, Choi Eunhye, Han Seonju, and Alexis Lee, presenting a total of 55 works to the audience.
This exhibition consists of works by young artists who explore human beings and the value of life, expressing their unique perspectives and sensibilities in a calm manner. The works convey their honest stories through attitudes accepting the finiteness of life, attempts to metaphorically represent life through the life cycle of plants, and expressions of personal memories and experiences intertwined with nature.
Kwon Hyesung delicately explores instinctive emotions through "Lydia_Inner Corner," which captures human inner desires. Ryu Hansol’s "Eye" grotesquely yet humorously depicts the fragmented self in the digital age, while Yoon Yeoseon’s large-scale work "IN BETWEEN #2" boldly expresses the psychological landscape formed at the boundary between humans and nature, reality and virtuality.
Kim Seunggyu’s "aria1" delicately conveys the artist’s own emotions and sentiments gradually becoming stagnant, centered on the fear of personal opinions or thoughts being ignored by society, and the presence that is silenced in the process. Kim Jiyoung’s work, vividly portraying "Charles Chaplin" with brilliant colors, reproduces the gap between the actual inner world and the fixed image of artists and celebrities who were greatly loved and admired in culture and history during their lifetime, and questions their authentic lives by depicting various facets of their existence in color.
The exhibition differentiates itself from recent contemporary works that awkwardly declare grand discourses by setting a single issue. It focuses on sincere works by artists who start from their current selves, perspectives, and ideas, calmly expressing their unique sensibilities and viewpoints. The works, honestly and plainly recreated with the unique thoughts and sensibilities of young contemporary artists, possess universality, deeply resonate, and persuasively engage the audience.
Park Chunsun, director of Haedeun Museum, said, "Since our opening in 2013, we have consistently held special exhibitions showcasing major works of modern and contemporary Korean art as well as works by world-renowned masters. Since 2021, we have focused on discovering and nurturing young artists, and this exhibition is planned as a continuation of that effort. We hope this exhibition will provide a valuable opportunity for young artists who have just begun to form their own artistic worlds and creative perspectives, and serve as a meaningful exhibition introducing works by young artists with contemporary sensibilities to the Ganghwa region."
