The construction project of the Jecheon~Yeongwol Expressway has passed the feasibility re-evaluation.
On the 9th, the Ministry of Economy and Finance held the '8th Fiscal Project Evaluation Committee Meeting of 2024' and reviewed and approved agenda items including the preliminary feasibility study and feasibility re-evaluation results. The Jecheon~Yeongwol Expressway construction project involves building a new 29.9 km four-lane expressway from Geumseong-myeon, Jecheon-si, Chungbuk to Yeongwol-eup, Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon-do, with a total project cost expected to be 1.7165 trillion KRW.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance stated, "By constructing an expressway connecting the Chungcheong region and the southern Gangwon region east to west, it is expected to contribute to balanced national development and to the economic revitalization of the southern Gangwon area, which has been struggling due to mine closures."
The Yeongwol Medical Center relocation and reconstruction (BTL) project and the next-generation 119 integrated system construction project have passed the preliminary feasibility study. The Yeongwol Medical Center relocation and reconstruction (BTL) project involves building a new medical center to replace the existing old and cramped facility, with a total project cost of 142.7 billion KRW. The Ministry explained that the number of beds will be expanded from the current 184 to about 300, and the number of medical departments will increase from 17 to 25 by adding departments such as nephrology, infectious diseases, and neurosurgery, which is expected to improve public medical services in the medically underserved areas of Yeongwol-gun, Pyeongchang-gun, and Jeongseon-gun in Gangwon-do.
The next-generation 119 integrated system construction project aims to improve the outdated system to efficiently respond to large-scale, complex, and ultra-wide-area disasters. It involves building an AI-utilized fire support and command system that oversees the jurisdictional cities and provinces, with a construction cost of 150.9 billion KRW.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance said, "Through this project, the on-site dispatch time (from call reception to departure from the garage) in emergency situations such as fires and rescues will be reduced by an average of 12 seconds (from 66 seconds to 54 seconds), and disaster response across administrative districts will be possible, further protecting the lives and safety of the public."
The nationwide memorial facility project for civilian victims before and after the Korean War has passed the feasibility re-evaluation. This project involves creating a permanent burial facility for civilian victims in Golryeonggol, Dong-gu, Daejeon, with a total project cost of 58.9 billion KRW. The Ministry stated, "The project plans to enshrine the remains of about 6,000 civilian victims who died before and after the Korean War," and added, "It is expected to become a space that heals and comforts the pain of bereaved families through various memorial projects such as joint memorial ceremonies for civilian victims and the use of exhibition facilities in the future."
