Naver Cloud announced on the 9th that it will release 'NAVIX,' a free Linux distribution that it directly develops and manages.
NAVIX is a Linux distribution provided in Korea that, unlike other products, is directly applied, operated, and managed on Naver's infrastructure, offering a stable development environment optimized for enterprises.
Linux, which has developed around the open-source community, has its source code publicly available, allowing anyone to modify and distribute it as needed. Therefore, there are various distributions tailored for different purposes. However, recently, commercial Linux distributions have faced issues such as the end of technical support and transition to paid services, causing companies difficulties in maintaining development environments due to uncertainties like security and stability concerns and increased cost burdens.
In response, Naver Cloud plans to provide a stable development environment by guaranteeing long-term technical support and updates while directly using and managing the system. The company emphasized that through its proprietary Linux distribution, it will create a sustainable Linux ecosystem, establishing a stable foundation that allows companies to focus on innovation and growth.
In fact, 15% of Team Naver's infrastructure is stably operated based on NAVIX, and there are plans to gradually expand its application scope in the future.
Additionally, NAVIX is an operating system (OS) based on OpenELA, offering high compatibility, safety, and flexibility. The company explained that the goal is to provide opportunities for technological innovation and growth to companies and developers by allowing anyone to access the source code and freely modify and distribute the software.
Kim Byung-jun, Director of Naver Cloud, stated, "We will do our best to support companies in securing a stable and predictable development environment through a sustainable Linux ecosystem."
