Osan City in Gyeonggi Province recently announced on the 8th that Mayor Lee Gwon-jae met with Ham Jin-gyu, President of Korea Expressway Corporation, to request cooperation on major issues related to the Osan section of the Gyeongbu Expressway.
Visiting the Korea Expressway Corporation headquarters in Gimcheon, Gyeongbuk, Mayor Lee said, "Based on the prediction that the population will reach 500,000 with the full-scale move-in of Segyo 2 District followed by the development of Segyo 3 District, we have prepared proposals on current issues," and requested, "We hope for Korea Expressway Corporation's deep interest and cooperation."

On that day, Mayor Lee proposed ▲utilization of the upper space and adjacent areas of the Gyeongbu Expressway ▲three-dimensional development of the airspace at Osan IC ▲establishment of a new Hi-Pass IC near the Woonamtteul AI City urban development project site ▲and the construction of a new Jinwi IC on the Gyeongbu Expressway.
The development of the upper space of the Gyeongbu Expressway is an initiative the city is pursuing to connect urban spaces divided by the expressway and promote three-dimensional urban development. Previously, Mayor Lee visited Seattle, USA, to benchmark for three-dimensional development and toured the 'Convention Summit,' a park built over the expressway. Mayor Lee stated, "Osan is located at the geographical center of the southern metropolitan semiconductor cluster and has connectivity with the Gyeongbu Expressway, making it a suitable area for major facilities including a convention center like Seattle's Convention Summit," and asked for Korea Expressway Corporation's interest.
Additionally, Mayor Lee requested a plan to alleviate traffic congestion at Osan IC by developing it into an airspace-type three-dimensional structure directly connected to the Gyeongbu Line railway crossing road, scheduled to begin construction on the 26th of this month. Furthermore, Mayor Lee asked for cooperation from Korea Expressway Corporation to disperse the concentrated highway entry and exit demand at Osan IC by establishing a new IC near Jinwi-myeon, Pyeongtaek, and new Hi-Pass ICs for both directions near the Woonamtteul AI City urban development project site.
