"Just a wrong choice of mercenary"
"More advantageous than during Park Geun-hye impeachment presidential election"
To Representative Han Dong-hoon: "You come down too"
Hong Joon-pyo, the mayor of Daegu, is pouring out harsh criticism toward the government and ruling party following the failure of the impeachment vote against President Yoon Seok-yeol. He called for the resignation of Representative Han Dong-hoon, who switched to opposing the impeachment, and effectively urged the impeachment of President Yoon by comparing the current political situation to that during the impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye.
On the afternoon of the 8th, Mayor Hong posted again on his Facebook, reflecting on the difficult situation at the time, saying, "The impeachment presidential election in May 2017 was devastating. The Korean conservative camp was devastated, and we, starting with a 4% approval rating, were ignored by conservative media until the end of the election."
He added, "Even in the Chosun Ilbo, I was considered just a minor party candidate until two days before the vote. Yet, from that ruin, we miraculously gained 24% and revived to second place," and wrote, "Even if President Yoon is impeached this time, the election environment will be much better than during the Park Geun-hye impeachment presidential election."
Regarding the current situation, he wrote, "The opponent is a candidate full of corruption, and unlike then, the conservative camp has not been devastated," and urged, "Let's go forward confidently and respond boldly." He emphasized, "Even if impeached, it is mercenary President Yoon who is impeached, not the Korean conservative camp," and said, "We just made a wrong choice of one mercenary. Let's not be discouraged."
Earlier that day, Mayor Hong sharpened his words toward Representative Han Dong-hoon, saying, "Don't do that, you should step down too."
He said, "This situation came about because a novice president and a novice party leader clashed and brought things to this state," and asked, "How do you (Representative Han) have the authority to suspend the duties of a president elected by the people?"
He continued, addressing Representative Han, "The people of the Republic of Korea have never entrusted you (Representative Han) with the administration," and emphasized, "If the conflict between the president and the party leader has led to an impeachment crisis, then naturally the party leader must take responsibility and resign."
