Application Deadline Until January 3 Next Year
Gangnam-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) is holding the ‘Ddasumi Hat Knitting’ event, where residents knit hats themselves and deliver them to the elderly, disabled, and other marginalized groups, from the 6th of this month until January 10th of next year. Participants for the event will be recruited until January 3rd of next year.
This event was voluntarily started in 2013 by members of the study club at the Gangnam-gu Women’s Empowerment Center and is now in its 13th year. Last year, 271 scarves were completed and gifted to vulnerable groups to provide a warm winter.
Those wishing to participate can apply through the Gangnam-gu Women’s Empowerment Center website. The participation fee is 10,000 KRW, and participants can visit the center or receive kits including yarn and large knitting needles, as well as patterns, by courier. For beginners, ‘Hat Knitting’ instructional videos uploaded on the center’s website and YouTube are provided so that anyone can easily join.
Participants can receive 4 hours of volunteer time credit per hat and may submit up to two hats. Completed hats should be sent to the center by 6 PM on January 10th of next year. The finished Ddasumi hats will be delivered to marginalized neighbors through local social welfare facilities. For detailed inquiries about the event, please check the Gangnam-gu Women’s Empowerment Center website or contact them by phone.
District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong stated, “I hope the hats, lovingly made by residents, become gifts that share warmth even in the cold winter,” and added, “We will continue to expand various donation events that residents can voluntarily participate in to create a warm community where we live together.”
