Increased by 176 Compared to This Year
Yangcheon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced on the 8th that it will expand the recruitment for ‘Senior Jobs’ and ‘Companion Jobs’ next year, providing approximately 3,850 customized jobs.
The district has prepared 3,451 jobs, an increase of 144 compared to this year, to operate the ‘2025 Senior Jobs and Social Activity Support Project,’ and is recruiting participating seniors until the 13th of this month.
The district increased ‘Public Interest Activities (Public Interest Type) jobs’ by 4%, ‘Capacity Utilization (Social Service Type) jobs’ by 7%, and ‘Community Business Group (Market Type) jobs’ by 4% to provide services in areas where social assistance is needed by utilizing the experience and capabilities of seniors.
By type, the recruitment numbers are ▲Senior Public Interest Activity Project 2,576 ▲Senior Capacity Utilization Project (Social Service Type) 587 ▲Community Business Group (Market Type) 218 ▲Employment Support 70. The ‘Senior Public Interest Activity Project’ targets recipients of basic pensions and occupational pensions (such as government officials and military personnel) aged 65 and older, and places them in volunteer jobs at public facilities such as cleaning around community service centers, lunch helpers at senior centers, and traffic safety guides at elementary schools.
In particular, for the ‘Lunch Helper at Senior Centers,’ the eligibility requirements have been relaxed to allow those aged 60 and older to participate if there are no higher-priority waiting applicants. The ‘Senior Capacity Utilization Project (Social Service Type)’ places seniors aged 65 and older (some types from 60 and older) in care facilities, smart senior centers, childcare facilities, nursing homes, and other workplaces.
Additionally, the district plans to actively promote participation of many seniors in ‘Community Business Jobs’ such as convenience stores, cafes, and credit card delivery, as well as employment linkage with private institutions.
Residents who wish to participate in senior jobs can inquire and apply at community service centers, Yangcheon Senior Club, welfare centers, the Korean Senior Citizens Association Yangcheon Branch, and 12 other implementing agencies by the 13th of this month.
Meanwhile, the district will also expand the ‘Companion Jobs Project,’ which provides jobs for vulnerable groups such as the unemployed to help other socially disadvantaged people. Next year’s Companion Jobs Project will consist of 14 projects in five areas: economic vulnerability support, care and health vulnerability support, digital vulnerability support, social and safety vulnerability support, and climate and environmental vulnerability support. The number of participants will increase by 32 compared to this year, with 198 people active in each half of the year, totaling 396 people working in various fields.
Major projects for the first half of next year’s Yangcheon-gu Companion Jobs include ‘Digital Guides’ who assist with using kiosks such as unmanned civil service issuance machines, ‘Meal Support’ for healthy diets for seniors and people with developmental disabilities, ‘Our Neighborhood Safety and Environment Guardians’ who inspect rainwater drains and collect illegal advertisements during heavy rain, and the ‘Food Bank Market Support Project’ which collects food donations and delivers them to neighbors in need. These projects will strengthen the social safety net and support vulnerable groups, starting in early January.
The district plans to conduct on-site inspections and monitoring to ensure smooth operation of next year’s senior and companion job projects, and actively discover and expand excellent projects.
Mayor Lee Gi-jae said, “I hope the senior and companion job projects can be of some help to residents struggling with the economic downturn and high prices,” adding, “We will continue to actively discover and operate quality jobs to contribute to revitalizing the local economy and stabilizing people’s livelihoods.”
