The construction of the Pyeongtaek City Western Branch Office aims to promote balanced development in the western region and respond to increasing administrative demands. Since the integration of cities and counties in 1995, the city has operated the Anjung Branch Office by utilizing part of the Anjung Cultural Center, but citizens have continuously experienced inconvenience due to inefficient office space and limited parking.
The Western Branch Office, which will be built with a total investment of 96 billion KRW, will have a total floor area of 22,640 square meters spanning from one basement floor to four above-ground floors. Upon completion in the second half of 2026, it will replace the existing Anjung Branch Office.
Earlier, in June of last year, the city selected "Hwayang Yeonhwa," a design that harmonizes the city, nature, and citizens, as the winning entry through a design competition. The building features efficient office space modules that can accommodate future changes and eco-friendly offices. In particular, the library constructed alongside the Western Branch Office will consist of an open reading room, which the city expects will contribute to expanding the cultural environment in the western region.
Mayor Jeong Jang-seon of Pyeongtaek said, "The Western Branch Office is the starting point of a mid- to long-term vision to develop the relatively neglected western region of Pyeongtaek and establish it as the new center of Pyeongtaek City." He added, "We will steadily promote projects such as the Hwayang District General Hospital, Anjung Station area development, automobile cluster, and Pyeongtaek Lake development to create a new era for the western region of Pyeongtaek."
