On the 7th, Shin Dong-wook, the senior spokesperson for the People Power Party in the National Assembly, met with reporters after the dismissal of the impeachment motion and said, "We will prepare proactive measures to manage the political situation that the public can accept, minimizing government confusion." He added, "Members of the People Power Party expressed our position by not participating in the presidential impeachment vote."
On that day, the impeachment vote against President Yoon held in the National Assembly was invalidated and dismissed as 105 out of 108 People Power Party members abstained from voting. Although opposition party members and People Power Party members Kim Sang-wook, Kim Ye-ji, and Ahn Cheol-soo voted, the required quorum of 200 votes was not met.
Senior spokesperson Shin said, "As the ruling party, we deeply feel the heavy responsibility for this incident. A thorough investigation into all processes related to the declaration of martial law must be followed by strict legal measures." He emphasized, "However, we cannot repeat the tragedy of government paralysis and constitutional suspension caused by presidential impeachment." He continued, "The unprecedented presidential impeachment eight years ago left South Korea deeply divided and in turmoil. The scars still remain deeply throughout our society. We cannot repeat the misfortune of constitutional suspension through presidential impeachment again."
Meanwhile, Choo Kyung-ho, the floor leader of the People Power Party, is reported to have expressed his intention to resign from his position. People Power Party members are currently holding discussions regarding this matter.
