Na Kyung-won mentions Park Geun-hye "Painful memory from 8 years ago... Need to discuss abnormal National Assembly halt"

"Park Geun-hye's First Apology Seen as Political Suicide"
"Opposition Party's National Assembly Operation Resembles Yushin Era Unified National Assembly"

President Yoon Suk-yeol delivered a national address at 10 a.m. on the 7th, while Na Kyung-won, a member of the People Power Party, raised her voice saying, “Discussions that can also put a brake on the abnormal National Assembly must be held together.”

Before President Yoon’s national address on the same day, Rep. Na said, “The party meeting was held all day yesterday, and fortunately, the party’s stance that impeachment will not proceed was maintained. If all our party members follow the party line in today’s impeachment vote, it can naturally be rejected.” She also recalled the impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye and said that apologies should be made cautiously. “The painful memories from eight years ago are vivid. After the Choi Soon-sil scandal broke out, President Park apologized twice after her first apology on October 25, but ultimately, the National Assembly passed the impeachment,” she pointed out, adding, “The first apology was even evaluated as political suicide.”

While saying, “Of course, the president’s apology regarding this incident should be made,” she added, “However, I think the timing and content must be decided very carefully.” She said, “Personally, I hope the president’s apology comes after the current confusion, where fake news and real news are mixed, has somewhat settled. Only then will the public have the leisure to listen,” and added, “If it must be today, I hope it is humble rather than lengthy.”

She stated, “This emergency martial law is obviously wrong. Everyone laments that the image of the Republic of Korea has regressed. Opposition party members are inciting impeachment by talking about guns, knives, and military boots,” and criticized, “The opposition’s way of operating the National Assembly is no less, if not worse, than the National Conference for Unification during the Yushin era of the 1970s. It is Lee Jae-myung’s National Conference for Unification.” She went on to say, “The Democratic Party’s 22 impeachment motions, the passage of unconstitutional bills including the Yellow Envelope Act, the rampant use of special prosecutors, unilateral budget cuts, as well as countless atrocities such as depriving lawmakers of speaking and attendance rights in standing committees, are being carried out,” and added, “Now, various solutions including constitutional amendment discussions will be proposed. What must not be forgotten is that discussions that can put a brake not only on the imperial presidency but also on the abnormal National Assembly must be held together.”

Meanwhile, President Yoon stated in his national address at 10 a.m. that “I will leave the issue of my term and future political stability measures to our party.” In response, Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, said immediately after the address, “It is impossible for the president to perform his normal duties, and the president’s early resignation is inevitable.”
