'2024 Gyeonggi-do's Autonomous Public High School 2.0' Performance Evaluation Meeting Held

The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Tae-hee) held an evaluation meeting on the 6th to summarize the one-year operational achievements of ‘Autonomous Public High School 2.0 created by Gyeonggi Province’ (hereinafter referred to as Autonomy Public High School 2.0) and to reaffirm their commitment to next year’s activities.

The event, held in Osan (Lotte Human Resources Development Center), was attended by over 200 stakeholders, including Autonomy Public High School 2.0 faculty and staff, representatives from 25 education support offices, key partner institutions of the schools, and the Autonomy Public High School 2.0 operation support group.


Among the 100 schools nationwide selected through the third round, a total of 21 schools in the province were chosen for Autonomy Public High School 2.0, the highest number in the country. Autonomy Public High School 2.0 serves as a model by the Provincial Office of Education to enhance the competitiveness of public education and promote regional balanced development, with a fundamental direction to create schools that act as a compass for future curricula, instruction, evaluation, and career and character education.


At the evaluation meeting, the Provincial Office of Education officials began with a presentation on the operational achievements of Gyeonggi Autonomy Public High School 2.0, followed by a special lecture titled “Autonomy Public High Schools should prepare customized curricula according to the students’ characteristics.”


Subsequently, excellent case presentations from Autonomy Public High School 2.0 operating schools were given, and participants including partner institutions and parents proposed their expectations for the operation of Autonomy Public High Schools and engaged in open discussions.


The Provincial Office of Education plans to focus on strengthening the educational capacity of general high schools for academic improvement and customized education for all students, centered on Autonomy Public High School 2.0 operating schools. Additionally, efforts will be made to develop educational models tailored to the characteristics of each city and county in the province, improve living conditions in educationally underserved areas, and revitalize regional education by resolving regional imbalances.


Kim Yoon-gi, Director of the Curriculum Policy Division at the Provincial Office of Education, stated, “Autonomy Public High School 2.0 created by Gyeonggi Province can strengthen the competitiveness of public education by enabling the development of educational models suited to regional characteristics,” adding, “We will actively strive to ensure that Autonomy Public High School 2.0 leads the competitiveness of local public education and becomes an innovative model reflecting Gyeonggi’s future education policies.”
