"Blaming Victims Including Jijeonpa and Yoo Young-chul"... Profiler Pyo Chang-won Analyzes 'Yoon Martial Law'

Pyo Shares Criminal Cases on SNS
"Criminals Think Differently from Ordinary People Because of 'Ttaemune'"

Profiler and former National Assembly member Pyo Chang-won analyzed President Yoon Seok-yeol's declaration of martial law by citing cases of criminals such as Yoo Young-chul and the Jijeonpa group.

On the 6th, Pyo began his post on his social networking service (SNS) with the sentence, "Whenever I gave lectures on crime and was asked, 'What is the difference between a criminal and an ordinary person?' I answered that it is the difference in thinking between 'because of ~' and 'despite ~'."

He then mentioned the statements of notorious criminals who shocked the world, revealing their real names, including Yoo Young-chul and the Jijeonpa group. Pyo said, "The Jijeonpa and Yoo Young-chul said, 'Because we are poor and struggling, and the rich are selfish and do not share,' Chosun said, 'Because I am unhappy and others are happy,' Yang Gwang-jun said, 'Because the victim did ○○○,' and perpetrators of domestic violence, child abuse, dating violence, and stalking all blame the victims with '...because of ~.'"

He emphasized, "On the other hand, no matter how difficult and harsh the situation is, people who do not harm others try to uphold the law, procedures, and moral boundaries 'despite ~'." The Jijeonpa was a criminal organization that shocked the world with brutal serial murders from 1993 to 1994, and Yoo Young-chul was a serial killer who murdered 20 people from 2003 to 2004. Chosun was responsible for the stabbing incident at Sillim Station last year, and Yang Gwang-jun is the perpetrator of the recent North Han River dismemberment murder case.

Pyo said, "Those who committed unconstitutional, illegal, and treasonous martial law crimes, as well as those who defend them, rely on the same logic of 'because of the opposition party,'" adding, "Equality before the law means that criminals who abuse power must be treated equally with other criminals, and motives should never be grounds for exoneration or mitigation." He also said, "If we criticize other criminals' 'because of ~' but shield and defend those close to us or on our side with the same 'because of ~,' it inevitably becomes unjust favoritism and double standards."

He explained, "If the opposition party behaves excessively or wrongly, it should be addressed and sanctioned according to law and procedures," and added, "There is also the means of 'politics' that appeals to public judgment through public opinion." He appealed, "Let us escape the foolishness of division and double standards." This statement appears to be made in response to remarks by the presidential office and the People Power Party after President Yoon's failed martial law declaration, which suggested that the declaration was made "because of the Democratic Party's violence."

Pyo also stated that this martial law caused tremendous damage. He claimed, "Due to the ruthless and utterly foolish martial law, I personally suffered considerable damage and negative effects, but the entire economy including self-employed businesses and companies, as well as diplomacy, national prestige, the military, police, prosecution, and overall government trust, suffered enormous harm." He concluded his post by saying, "A thorough investigation and strict punishment of all those involved must be carried out swiftly. Only then can normalization and damage recovery begin. This is true for all criminal cases."
