Two Teachers from Jeonnam Awarded '2024 Science Teacher of the Year'

Contribution to Convergence and Digital-Based Science Education

Teacher Kang Dae-cheol of Cheontae Elementary School and Teacher Seo Ye-jeong of Muntae Middle School in Jeonnam received the ‘2024 Science Teacher of the Year Award’.


According to the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education on the 6th, the Science Teacher of the Year Award, known as the ‘Nobel Prize for Teachers,’ is hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and organized by the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity. Since 2003, it has been a prestigious award recognizing teachers who have contributed to the revitalization of science education and the spread of scientific culture.

Teacher Kang Dae-cheol, as the representative of the ‘2024 Korea Glocal Future Education Elementary Convergence Project Class,’ led science and information convergence education using edutech. In particular, to foster students’ creativity and problem-solving skills, he organized the ‘Edutechon Creativity and Convergence’ club, supporting students to practically experience the intersection of science and technology and realizing student-centered convergence education.


Teacher Seo Ye-jeong took the lead in enhancing the quality of science classes by developing inquiry experiment content using digital sensors. She also contributed to the spread and development of digital-based science education by working as a training instructor to strengthen teacher professionalism.


Both awardees will receive the Minister of Science and ICT Award along with a prize of 5 million won.


Park Jun, Director of Future Education, said, “I deeply thank and encourage the teachers who passionately engage in science education at schools and strive to nurture future talents,” adding, “We will continue to spare no support to provide students with diverse learning opportunities.”
