The Democratic Party's Legal Committee announced on the 6th that it has filed a complaint with the National Investigation Headquarters against Choo Kyung-ho, the floor leader of the People Power Party, on charges of treason. This follows the previous day's complaint accusing President Yoon Seok-yeol and eight others of treason.
In a press release on the same day, the Democratic Party's Legal Committee stated, "Today, we have reported Floor Leader Choo to the National Investigation Headquarters as an accomplice in the treason led by President Yoon," adding, "Floor Leader Choo, as a member of the National Assembly entrusted by the people, disregarded his authority and duties and participated in treason by obstructing and hindering the normal functions of the National Assembly."
They further said, "On the 4th, President Yoon declared an unconstitutional and illegal martial law, mobilizing armed military and police forces to seize control of the National Assembly, thereby executing treason aimed at disrupting the constitutional order. However, Floor Leader Choo lured People Power Party members to the venue in a critical situation where the constitutional order was on the brink of collapse, inciting confusion and requesting the Speaker of the National Assembly to postpone the plenary session vote."
The Legal Committee emphasized, "(Floor Leader Choo) clearly obstructed the vote on the motion to lift martial law in the National Assembly," and "since the only way to block President Yoon's martial law was through the exercise of the National Assembly members' voting rights to lift martial law, Floor Leader Choo is a key accomplice in the treason."
