Deputy Prime Minister Choi Sang-mok: "We Will Strive to Enable Stable Business Operations for Foreign Companies"

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choi Sang-mok stated, "We will strive to ensure that foreign companies operating in Korea can conduct their business activities stably."

On the 6th, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Ahn Deok-geun and Deputy Prime Minister Choi jointly held a meeting with foreign chambers of commerce at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, attended by representatives from six foreign chambers of commerce in Korea, including the President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea.


The meeting was attended by James Kim, President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea; Philip van Hoof, President of the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea; Kazuhiro Iguchi, Chairman of the Seoul Japan Club; Yoo Hae-yeon, Executive Chairman of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Korea; David-Pierre Jalicon, President of the French-Korean Chamber of Commerce; Park Hyun-nam, President of the German Chamber of Commerce in Korea; and Lee Sung-woo, Head of International Trade at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Secretary of the Council of Foreign Chambers of Commerce in Korea).


Representatives of the foreign chambers of commerce in Korea expressed, "Although there is high concern within the industry regarding the recent domestic situation, it is necessary to closely cooperate to promptly resolve the economic uncertainties caused by recent events and to enable Korea to emerge as a business hub in the Asia-Pacific region." They also requested active attention to ensure that foreign investors and foreign companies can conduct their business activities stably within Korea.


Deputy Prime Minister Choi explained, "The martial law measures have all been lifted through proper legal procedures," and added, "All systems are operating normally as before." He further stated, "We will continue to maintain systematic policy responses as usual to ensure that domestic investment and economic activities of foreign companies can proceed stably under any circumstances."
