Meeting at the Press Center at 5 PM
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon and other governors from the People Power Party will hold an emergency meeting to discuss the political situation related to the declaration of martial law.
According to the council, the metropolitan leaders affiliated with the People Power Party will gather at 5 p.m. on the 6th at the Korea Press Center in Seoul to discuss issues related to President Yoon Suk-yeol's declaration of martial law.
Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok serves as the chairman of the council, and 12 metropolitan leaders from the People Power Party are participating, including Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, Busan Mayor Park Hyung-joon, Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo, Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo, Ulsan Mayor Kim Du-gyeom, Sejong Mayor Choi Min-ho, Gangwon Governor Kim Jin-tae, North Chungcheong Governor Kim Young-hwan, South Chungcheong Governor Kim Tae-heum, North Gyeongsang Governor Lee Cheol-woo, and South Gyeongsang Governor Park Wan-su.
On the 4th, the council issued a statement demanding that the president "apologize to the people and clearly express his position on measures for future national stability and reform" regarding the declaration of martial law.
However, it is presumed that the situation leading to the opposition's push for the president's impeachment will be prevented. Mayor Oh stated on Facebook that "impeachment is not the solution" and proposed a responsible prime minister system. Mayor Hong also wrote on Facebook, "If impeachment happens again, this party will no longer have any value to exist and will disappear," adding, "The president should promptly apologize to the public, form a national unity cabinet, entrust all appointments to a responsible prime minister, and declare a constitutional amendment to shorten the presidential term."
