The Gwangyang zipline, Somjingang Starlight Sky, spans 898 meters connecting Mangdeoksan Mountain and Baealdo Waterfront Park. The facility’s name was chosen through a national public contest and embodies the emotion and romance of the brilliant starlit sky viewed from Somjingang River.
The zipline consists of a total of five lines: four for descending and one for retrieval. The 12-seat monorail, which runs between the ticket office and the zipline departure point, travels up and down a steep 280-meter section, offering breathtaking views of Somjingang River and Mangdeok Port along with thrilling excitement.
The city has designated a nine-day special event period starting from the 11th, featuring various events such as free trial groups, opening discounts, and SNS ride reviews. The free trial group consists of 110 people in total. Over 500 applicants applied during the pre-registration that closed on the 5th, and participants will be selected by lottery for each date.
During the special event period, anyone meeting the weight requirement (45?105 kg) can enjoy the Somjingang Starlight Sky, monorail, and the romantic beauty of the port for 10,000 KRW.
Kim Seongsu, Director of Tourism, said, “Once Somjingang Starlight Sky is fully operational, it is expected to complete an active and beautiful marine road by connecting Mangdeok Port, Baealdo Waterfront Park, and Baealdo Island Garden in a triangle along with the monorail and marine pedestrian bridge.”
He added, “We will develop it into a stay-type tourism hub where visitors can enjoy humanities, night views, and activities together, including the beautiful nightscapes of Baealdo Island Garden, Byeolhaenda Bridge, Haemajida Bridge, the Jeong Byeonguk House preserving Yun Dongju’s manuscripts, Yun Dongju Poetry Garden, and the Gwangyang Kim Clan ancestral site.”
