Dangjin City in Chungnam Province announced on the 6th that it has been selected as a pilot institution for the Onbook program, supervised by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and will begin full-scale operations this month.

'Onbook' refers to a laptop that enables government employees to handle tasks while complying with security regulations, not only in the office but also during business trips or remote work, as part of the current administration's national agenda to realize a digital platform government.

In particular, Onbook features enhanced security by applying the latest security technologies such as virtual private network (VPN) pre-authentication and zero trust, to prevent hacking caused by malware infection or information leakage.

Currently, about 940 Onbook devices are being operated across six central government ministries, including the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Economy and Finance. For this pilot program targeting local governments, Dangjin and Boryeong in Chungnam Province, and Seocho-gu Office in Seoul have been selected.

Through collaboration with the Public AI Policy Division of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the infrastructure will be established and the pilot program will be operated in various fields such as water supply, welfare, and facilities until June 2025.

Park Byungseon, head of the Civil Affairs Information Division, stated, "Utilizing Onbook will enhance administrative efficiency for public officials and enable prompt handling of civil complaints on site," adding, "We will continue to develop various policies to build a smarter work environment."
