People Power Party to Hold Emergency General Meeting at 11 AM... Likely to Discuss 'Yoon Impeachment Proposal'

Opposition Party Sets Stance Against Impeachment
Han Dong-hoon: "Yoon Needs Suspension from Duty"

The People Power Party convened an emergency party members' meeting at 11 a.m. on the 6th. It is expected to reconsider its stance on the impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol.

Party Floor Leader Chu informed party members that the emergency party members' meeting would be held at 11 a.m. in the National Assembly Budget Committee meeting room.

Although the People Power Party decided at the previous day's party members' meeting to oppose the impeachment motion against President Yoon as the party's official position, it is anticipated that the issue will be reopened for discussion as Representative Han expressed the need to suspend President Yoon's duties on the same day.

At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Representative Han stated, "Yesterday, I said I would try to prevent the impeachment from passing to avoid harm to the people and supporters caused by unprepared confusion. However, considering newly revealed facts, I have judged that the prompt suspension of President Yoon Seok-yeol's duties is necessary to protect the Republic of Korea and its people."

Representative Han added, "Last night, I confirmed through reliable evidence that on the day the martial law was declared, President Yoon ordered Yeoinhyeong, the counterintelligence commander and his high school junior, to arrest key politicians on the grounds that they were anti-state forces. It was also identified that there was a concrete plan for Commander Ye to detain those arrested politicians at a detention facility in Gwacheon," he claimed.

In response, Jo Kyung-tae, the most senior (six-term) member of the People Power Party (Busan Saha-eul), publicly expressed support for President Yoon's impeachment, becoming the first ruling party lawmaker to do so, causing a stir within the ruling party.
