Free Transfers Available Between Daegu City and 8 Gyeongbuk Local Governments
Public Transportation Usage Increases by 30,000 Trips Due to Reduced Transportation Costs
Goryeong County, Gyeongbuk Province (Governor Lee Nam-cheol) will implement the Gyeongbuk-Daegu Metropolitan Area Public Transportation Transfer System on the 14th to reduce transportation costs for residents and promote the use of public transportation.
The metropolitan transfer target areas include Daegu City and eight local governments in Gyeongbuk (Goryeong, Gyeongsan, Yeongcheon, Gimcheon, Gumi, Chilgok, Seongju, Cheongdo), and the Daegu Metropolitan Railroad (Daegyeong Line), scheduled to open around the same time, is also included in the project scope.
With this project, public transportation users will be able to transfer up to two times for free, and partial discounts will be applied for high-fare vehicles such as express buses and the Daegyeong Line.
However, to receive transfer benefits, users must use a transportation card and tag the card on the exit terminal when getting off the vehicle, then board another route vehicle within 30 minutes (60 minutes for buses under the jurisdiction of Gyeongbuk local governments).
Governor Lee Nam-cheol said, “Our county is preparing various policies to provide more convenient and affordable public transportation services to residents. Following the abolition of the section fare system last month, we expect to further reduce the burden on residents with the implementation of this metropolitan transfer system.” He added, “This project is a joint effort by nine local governments and will be an important first step toward mutual growth between Gyeongbuk and Daegu.”
