LS Electric recently held the award ceremony for the '11th Underwater Photography Contest' at LS Yongsan Tower in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, jointly with the Seoul Underwater & Finswimming Association, announcing on the 6th that photographer Min Kyung-ho and photographer Joo Won received the grand prize and the excellence award, respectively.

The underwater photography contest was initiated and planned by LS Electric Chairman Koo Ja-kyun, who also serves as the president of the Seoul Underwater & Finswimming Association, with the intention of sharing and preserving the beautiful ocean scenery together. It has been held annually since 2013.

For this contest, a total of 234 works were submitted by September in two categories: ▲Underwater Photography (Wide-angle/Macro) and ▲Marine Environment. After evaluation by a judging panel composed of experts from various fields, a total of 39 works were selected, including 19 in the underwater photography category and 20 in the marine environment category.

Among them, photographer Min Kyung-ho won the grand prize with the work titled ‘Silver Typhoon Under the Sea.’ This piece was praised for capturing a magnificent scene created by a school of barracuda (large fish inhabiting subtropical regions) with perfect composition and perspective.

The excellence award went to photographer Joo Won. The work titled ‘Siphan and Diver’ was recognized for its originality by expressing a commonly addressed subject in underwater photography in a three-dimensional manner. In addition, three works received the merit award, four received the encouragement award, and ten were selected as honorable mentions.

The award-winning works will be exhibited in the first-floor lobbies of LS Anyang Tower and LS Yongsan Tower until mid-January next year, open to the general public.

Chairman Koo Ja-kyun said, "The contest, held to discover and support domestic underwater photographers, has reached its 11th edition, marking the start of a new decade. I hope that many people can find comfort and hope by appreciating the beauty of the underwater world, which is not easily experienced in daily life, through these photographs."
