"Illegal Activities Will Be Strictly Addressed According to Law and Principles"
On the 5th, the Ministry of Employment and Labor held a 'Labor Situation Inspection Meeting' at the Seoul Employment and Labor Office attended by key executives and heads of local offices. The purpose was to review recent labor strikes and rallies and discuss response strategies.
Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moon-soo expressed concern over the growing public inconvenience caused by the Korea Railroad Workers' Union's indefinite strike. He stated, "The Korea Railroad Corporation's labor and management should resolve the issue through dialogue as soon as possible, and the Seoul Metro labor and management should reach an agreement through negotiations today, with frontline labor offices providing support," adding, "We must minimize the inconvenience to the daily lives of the public."
He also said, "Given the challenging economic and social circumstances recently, it is not beneficial for workers when the labor sector intensifies turmoil through confrontational actions," and urged, "During difficult times, the labor sector, as a key pillar of our economy and society, must demonstrate a responsible attitude."
Furthermore, he stated, "The government guarantees the lawful and legitimate exercise of union rights," but "will strictly respond to any illegal activities in accordance with laws and principles."
