On the 5th, Gwangju City held the Senior Job Creation Committee meeting in Seminar Room 1 of City Hall to review and adjust the '2024 Senior Job Project Performance and 2025 Project Plan.'
The Senior Job Creation Committee, as stipulated by ordinance, functions to deliberate and adjust ▲ the establishment of senior job project promotion plans ▲ development of senior job categories and encouragement of preferential employment for seniors ▲ support for senior job creation ▲ and signing agreements with companies creating senior jobs.
Next year's senior job project in Gwangju aims to support various jobs and social activities under the vision of "Secure Old Age, Rewarding Gwangju." The performance indicator is set to create 36,348 senior jobs, about 10% of the senior population in Gwangju (349,455 people). This is an increase of 3,978 jobs (12.3%) compared to this year's 32,370 jobs.
The plan is to respond to the super-aged society and continuous increase in the senior population by supporting various senior jobs and social activities so that the elderly can lead active and healthy lives in old age.
The city will invest 155.1 billion KRW in next year's senior job project, promoting senior public service projects, senior capacity utilization projects, community project groups, and employment support (employment referral type). To expand participation opportunities, additional points for national merit recipients have been introduced, and qualification criteria have been broadened to allow family members who are caregivers to participate. Furthermore, the city plans to expand senior jobs to address local issues such as childcare services and after-school safety management support.
Additionally, jobs utilizing the capabilities of the new senior generation will be promoted, including ▲ Gwangju-style Integrated Care Monitoring Team ▲ Solitary Death Prevention Check-in Service ▲ Hospital Companion Service for Socially Vulnerable Groups, supporting the seamless service of the 'Gwangju-style Integrated Care,' which is marking its third year of implementation.
On the 13th of last month, the city held a public-private consultative meeting to revitalize the senior job project and discuss the direction for the 2025 project. On the 14th, the Gwangju Senior Club Association hosted the 2024 Senior Job Project Performance Evaluation Meeting, sharing best practices and awarding commendations to meritorious individuals.
Kim Young-hwa, Director of the Aging Society Policy Division, stated, "To respond to the super-aged society and the continuous increase in the senior population, we will support income preservation and vibrant old age by providing various jobs tailored to the demands of the experienced and capable new senior generation."
