The Gwangju History and Folklore Museum announced on the 5th that, together with the Gwangju Tourism Organization, it will hold a variety of experiential events under the theme "Let's Play with President Kim Dae-jung's Grandfather" at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center Open Hall from 2 to 5 p.m. on the 7th and 8th, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of President Kim Dae-jung's birth.
Linked with the Kim Dae-jung Hall exhibition, this event is designed to allow visitors to experience the life and achievements of the late President Kim Dae-jung in one place, featuring various experiential programs, exhibitions, photo zones, and quiz events.
In particular, a space to revisit the exhibition "Kim Dae-jung, Again in the Wilderness," which has been held at the Gwangju History and Folklore Museum since April, is prepared, allowing visitors to review condensed exhibition photos, videos, panels, and catalogs.
The experiential programs include "Making Indongcho Embroidered Handkerchiefs," "Making Indongcho Grip Tok," and "Drawing Indongcho," reflecting on the meaning of "Indongcho," the nickname of President Kim Dae-jung, who did not yield to hardship and adversity.
Additionally, through experiences such as "Peace Symbol Dove Origami," "Taegukgi Cross-stitch Experience," "Korean Peninsula Keyring Making," and "Coloring the Nobel Peace Prize Medal," participants will have time to remember his achievements in peace on the Korean Peninsula and efforts toward inter-Korean reconciliation. There is also an event where an artist writes selected famous quotes of President Kim Dae-jung in calligraphy on postcards.
Special programs include the "President Kim Dae-jung Caricature Challenge," where citizens complete an image of President Kim Dae-jung using stickers with their own names, and "You Quiz on the Kim Dae-jung," where participants can solve quizzes related to President Kim Dae-jung and receive prizes.
Visitors who take a certification shot at the Kim Dae-jung Hall exhibition can also receive hidden gifts. There is a photo zone where visitors can take pictures with Gwangju travel friend "Omaena" and a photo box to capture four life shots.
Anyone can participate, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis at the event site on the day. Participation is free of charge.
Im Chan-hyeok, director of the Gwangju History and Folklore Museum, said, "Before the year ends, which marks the 100th anniversary of President Kim Dae-jung's birth, I hope this will be a time for all generations to talk about and experience the life of President Kim Dae-jung, who embodies the history of democracy in our country and resembles the democratic, human rights, and peace city of Gwangju."
