Vehicle Delivery Delays Confirm Additional Units After 2 Years
Three Reservation-Based Routes to Begin Sequential Operation from the 12th
From the 5th, the number of operating vehicles on three metropolitan bus routes traveling between Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, and Seoul has increased by one each.
Yongin City announced that starting from this day, three additional metropolitan buses operating between Dongbaek-dong and Sangha-dong in Giheung-gu and Seoul Station and Gangnam Station have begun service.
The routes with increased buses are ▲5000AB (Myongji University~Dongbaek~Seoul Station) ▲5003AB (Namdong~Dongbaek~Gangnam Station) ▲5005 (Myongji University~Sangha-dong~Seoul Station). Originally, the increase in these routes was confirmed in November 2022 as part of the metropolitan bus standing ban policy, but due to delays in vehicle delivery by the manufacturer, the operation started today after two years.

Along with this, the city will sequentially operate three 'seat reservation metropolitan bus' routes introduced as a follow-up measure after the presidential public discussion on livelihood held in January, starting from the 12th. The 5001AB route departing from Suwon CC at 6:34 AM and the 5005 route at 7:31 AM will start operation on the 12th, and the 5000AB route departing from Chodang Station at 7:30 AM is scheduled to be introduced from January 2 next year.
In particular, the city expects that the 5001AB and 5005 (07:31) routes, which operate on a hub reservation system, will alleviate transportation inconveniences for citizens using metropolitan buses at stops around the Gyeongbu Expressway. The 5000AB route will operate on a full-route reservation system. The city explained that with this increase, the total number of seat reservation metropolitan bus routes operating from Yongin to Seoul will increase to 15 routes with 34 trips starting next year.
Chartered buses responding to demand during peak commuting hours will also increase by one vehicle each (one for morning commute, one for evening commute) on the 5001AB and 5005 routes starting from the 12th.
Meanwhile, the Seocheon District~Seoul Station route, selected as a new route under the metropolitan bus quasi-public operation system by the Metropolitan Transport Commission this year, will begin operation in the second half of next year, the city added. This route has been continuously submitted as a demand by the city since 2020. Currently, the Metropolitan Transport Commission is in the process of selecting a transportation operator for this route.
Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin City, said, "To improve citizens' transportation convenience, we will continue to make various efforts such as increasing metropolitan buses and expanding chartered buses during peak commuting hours."
