Dong-A University Department of Police Science Hosts Special Lecture and Career Planning Workshop for Career Exploration

'Ready, Set, Go Toward Your Dream: Fall Semester Career Day'

The Department of Police Science at Dong-A University (Department Head Heo Hwang) conducted the ‘Ready, Set, Go Fall Semester Career Day’ program for enrolled students.

Since the first semester, the Department of Police Science at Dong-A University has been running the ‘Ready, Set, Go’ program to strengthen students’ career and employment capabilities. The program consists of career exploration related to police and related fields (Ready), motivation through visits to police education institutions (Set), and preparation for public service entry through physical fitness tests and mock exams (Go).

With over 200 participants including students, this Career Day provided opportunities to explore various career paths not only in police (patrol officers and police executives) but also in probation, corrections, immigration control, firefighting, court positions, and other legal and public safety fields. Notably, the fall semester program diversified police and firefighting occupations to include maritime police, public corporations, and the firefighting industry, differentiating it from the spring semester.

Special lectures included △The Necessity of Cybercrime and Cybercrime Investigation (Professor Kim Yong-ho, Department of Police Science, Kyungil University) △Employment Special Lecture for Fire Science (Executive Director Choi Bong-young, Sejong Technology Group) △Law School Admission Special Lecture (Professor Park Bong-cheol, Dong-A University Law School) △Police Entry Training Course and Job Duties (Patrol Officer Park Young-hye, Northern Police Station, Busan Metropolitan Police Agency) △The Role of Maritime Police in the Era of International Maritime Hegemony (Chief of Security and Rescue Kim Jae-sung, Busan Maritime Police Station, Adjunct Professor at Dong-A University) △Police Inspector Recruitment, Training Course, and Job Duties (Inspector Park Bi-ju, Investigation Division, Northern Police Station, Busan Metropolitan Police Agency) △The Role of the Korea Rehabilitation Welfare Corporation in Korean Criminal Policy (Head of Protection Policy Department Jo Hee-won, Korea Rehabilitation Welfare Corporation).

Additionally, to assist senior students with career decisions and exam planning, Dr. Kim Jeong-hoon from the Department of Disaster Management at Dong-A University Graduate School was invited to conduct a workshop on ‘Public Service Career Planning.’

Department Head Heo Hwang stated, “The Department of Police Science at Dong-A University provided concrete information and experiences about various career paths including police through the Career Day event. We hope students had the opportunity to reconsider what career suits them best.”

Jo Ara (3rd year), Vice President of the Police Science Student Council, said, “As someone aspiring to become a protection service public official, I was able to gain valuable information on entrance strategies, recruitment guidance, and various fields related to my dream career, which will greatly help me prepare going forward. The special lecture on law school was also beneficial as it taught me strategies and mindset for future studies.”

Student Jeong Min-jong (1st year), who participated in the program, shared, “I was able to deeply understand tips for the police officer recruitment exam and the mindset and attitude after joining. Especially, Professor Kim Yong-ho’s lecture left a strong impression with the message that ‘one should become a distinctive police officer, not just an ordinary one,’ which gave me a positive reason to consider a double major.”
