West Sea Coast Guard Agency Provides Winter Season 'Ship Fire' Prevention Training

Production and Distribution of Leaflets for Creating a Safe Fishing Environment

The West Sea Regional Coast Guard Agency (Chief Lee Myung-jun) announced on the 5th that it will conduct fire prevention education for fishermen due to the increased use of heating devices during the winter season and the heightened risk of ship fires caused by careless handling of fire.

The West Sea Coast Guard Agency analyzed cases and causes of ship fires and explosions that occurred in the jurisdiction over the past five years to raise fishermen's awareness of fire prevention. They produced and distributed a leaflet titled "Ship Fire Safety Self-Inspection," which includes inspection items by ship area and action guidelines in case of fire.

An official from the Forensic Science Division stated, "Ship fires cause significant human and property damage, so it is important for fishermen themselves to take an interest in fire prevention," adding, "We will strive to create an atmosphere of fire prevention through various educational and promotional activities."

Meanwhile, since 2021, the West Sea Coast Guard Agency has been providing fire prevention education as part of the "Return-to-Fishing School" program conducted by local governments, and plans to expand education for fishermen in the future.
