Mayor Kang Su-hyun: "I will develop the western area of Yangju-si as a hub for future industries"
Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the 5th that the ‘DroneBot Talent Education Center,’ which will lay the foundation for the future industries of the western region of Yangju, is scheduled to open in January next year.
The ‘DroneBot Talent Education Center’ is planned to be established in the Yangju Technocity Knowledge Industry Center located in Gwangjeok-myeon within the city. It consists of an education center occupying 239.2㎡ across two rooms and an indoor drone flight area of 760㎡ in the courtyard.
The second-floor education center will include ▲office space, ▲drone flight simulators, ▲drone control experience zones, and ▲theory classrooms. On the first floor, the indoor drone flight area will feature a flight space with a ceiling height equivalent to five floors, along with safety facilities and maintenance spaces for indoor drone flights.
The center will be directly operated by the city and is expected to serve as a hub for Yangju’s drone and robotics industries by hosting ▲drone experience events for citizens, ▲staff training to promote drone use in administrative fields, and ▲rental of educational facilities to spread drone leisure culture and establish a basic foundation.
Meanwhile, Yangju City has recently shown rapid growth, achieving the highest population growth rate nationwide according to the ‘2023 Population and Housing Census’ released by Statistics Korea. However, the industrial structure and job sectors have not kept pace with the population increase.
Yangju is committed to attracting and fostering future industries within the city, especially aiming for balanced development of the western region, which has been left behind in the development of the eastern region.
Notably, since 2022, the city has been hosting the DroneBot Festival at the Ganap-ri airfield in Gwangjeok-myeon in collaboration with the Ground Operations Command.
At the DroneBot Festival venue, leading domestic drone and robotics companies such as Hanwha Aerospace Co., Ltd., Korean Air Co., Ltd., LIG Nex1 Co., Ltd., Doosan Mobility Innovation Co., Ltd., Hyundai Rotem Co., Ltd., and KAI have exhibited their products. The festival also hosts a DroneBot competition organized by the Korea Model Aviation Association, establishing itself as the representative festival of the western region and playing a pioneering role in fostering the local drone and robotics advanced industry.
Additionally, Yangju Technocity, where the education center will open, is a representative knowledge industry center of western Yangju. It is adjacent to the Ganap-ri airfield, the venue of the DroneBot Festival, and houses the headquarters of BCD ENC Co., Ltd., a promising drone company.
BCD ENC Co., Ltd. is a leading drone company that has secured major government R&D projects such as ▲Gyeonggi Province Promising SME in 2019, ▲Public Procurement Service’s innovative product BCD360 VR drone, ▲2024 drone demonstration city construction project, and ▲2024 Gyeonggi Province technology development project.
Yangju City expects that the establishment of this education center will serve as a cornerstone for strengthening the anchor role in fostering the western region’s drone and robotics industry and for the industrial agglomeration of related sectors, securing future growth engines.
Mayor Kang Su-hyun of Yangju stated, “Since drones and robots are core fields of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, we will expand the basic foundation through the opening of the DroneBot Talent Education Center and develop western Yangju into a hub of future industries.”
