Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) won the Grand Prize at the ‘2024 Eup/Myeon/Dong Welfare and Safety Service Improvement Best Practice Competition’ hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on the 28th of last month.

This competition was organized to review the achievements in building welfare and safety improvement models at the Eup/Myeon/Dong level nationwide and to discover best practices in areas such as ▲ identifying and supporting welfare blind spots ▲ Eup/Myeon/Dong safety management functions.

Previously, Gwangjin-gu was the only autonomous district in Seoul to advance to the finals as an excellent case in the ‘identifying and supporting welfare blind spots’ category.

The evaluation was conducted through presentations of best practices by nine local governments nationwide that advanced to the finals, followed by on-site judging by six experts.

Gwangjin-gu was recognized for its efforts to identify welfare blind spot crisis households and establish a dense welfare safety net within the local community by ▲ being the only autonomous district in Seoul to implement the ‘map-based identification’ project, which involves direct field surveys of crisis information target households within the welfare blind spot identification system ▲ assigning detailed addresses to vulnerable households such as semi-basement houses ▲ providing customized welfare counseling services for residents of irregular temporary housing facilities.
