Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) announced on the 5th that the Uijeongbu Branch of the Korea Deaf Association Gyeonggi Province Chapter (Branch President Jeong Seong-ryeol) held a year-end event where people with and without disabilities participated together at Nakwon Wedding Hall.

The event began with a congratulatory performance by a deaf Korean traditional dancer, attended by over 110 volunteers and members. This was followed by awards for meritorious persons who actively participated in volunteer and sponsorship activities, congratulatory speeches, and viewing of a video showcasing this year’s activities of the Uijeongbu Deaf Association.
Mayor Kim Dong-geun said, “I thank Branch President Jeong Seong-ryeol and the members for their efforts to improve the rights and promote equal social participation of the deaf in Uijeongbu City,” adding, “We will do our best to create a disability-friendly city that connects happiness in the coming new year.”
Meanwhile, among the registered disabled persons in Uijeongbu City, 3,611 have hearing and speech disabilities, accounting for 16% of all disabled persons. The city operates various programs to improve convenience and awareness for people with hearing and speech disabilities, such as a sign language interpretation center, sign language classes, and disability awareness improvement projects.
