Gwangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Bang Se-hwan) announced on the 5th that it was selected as an excellent local government in the ‘2024 Self-Sufficiency Sector Excellent Local Government Evaluation’ conducted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare on the 3rd, and received a commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare.

The excellent local government evaluation in the self-sufficiency sector was conducted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, evaluating 12 items in 4 areas including △self-sufficiency work projects △asset formation support project operation △activation of self-sufficiency funds △operation of self-sufficiency projects targeting local governments nationwide, selecting a total of 14 excellent local governments.
Gwangju City has promoted a cafe project linked with public institutions to revitalize the self-sufficiency work group, supporting participating residents with employment skill improvement education and psychological programs to help improve their conditions for independence.
In addition, as an asset formation support project, it has supported the financial foundation for low-income groups, and with self-sufficiency funds, it has worked to improve the environment of the self-sufficiency work group and assist startups as self-sufficiency enterprises, striving to establish a foundation for self-sufficiency projects.
Mayor Bang Se-hwan said, “Following the selection of the Gwangju Regional Self-Sufficiency Center as an excellent institution in the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s management evaluation last September, we have achieved the result of being selected as an excellent local government. This outcome was achieved through cooperation between the public and private sectors for the independence and self-sufficiency of vulnerable groups, and we will continue to make active efforts to promote self-sufficiency projects for low-income residents.”
