New Projects Launched to Support Small Business Owners and Revitalize Local Economy

Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province (Governor Seo Tae-won) will operate a new project called ‘Traditional Market Day’ starting next year to revitalize local small business owners and traditional markets. This project aims to promote the use of traditional markets by encouraging voluntary participation of county officials and to boost the local economy and the vitality of small business owners.

The project will be carried out without a separate budget, designating the fourth Wednesday of every month as the traditional market visit day to encourage the use of traditional markets within the county (Gapyeong, Seorak, Cheongpyeong, Jojong). Accordingly, the county plans to actively encourage employees to have lunch, shop, and hold dinner gatherings at stores within the traditional markets, and to urge senior officials to take the lead by example.

The county will also actively promote mobile payment using Onnuri gift certificates among employees and encourage the use of gift certificates for birthday presents or event prizes to further expand consumption in traditional markets. Through this, the frequency of store usage within the markets will increase, fostering coexistence with local small business owners.

A county official stated, “This project is a new attempt by the county to support small business owners and revitalize the local economy,” adding, “Even without additional budget input, it is expected to widely raise awareness of the importance of traditional markets and realize coexistence with the local community by strengthening cooperation between public officials and residents.”

Governor Seo Tae-won said, “Starting from January next year, we will actively promote ‘Traditional Market Day’ and encourage the active use of traditional markets in departmental projects and events,” and added, “Based on the active participation of public officials and close cooperation with traditional markets, we will help revitalize the local economy.”
