Qsing refers to a scam method where hackers place their own QR codes over legitimate QR codes to induce users to scan them, leading to the installation of malicious apps or hacking programs. For example, scam QR stickers are placed over QR codes used for shared electric scooter or bicycle rental services.

KT's Safe QR Service detects and notifies users if the scanned QR code links to a malicious app installation URL or an illegal website. If it is judged to be a smishing URL, the connection is blocked and a warning message is displayed. If the reliability is not verified, a caution message is shown and the user is asked to confirm whether to proceed to the site.

The KT Safe QR Service is available for free to anyone without login through the 'MyKT' app.

Meanwhile, to promote the Safe QR Service, KT will hold the 'Safe QR Draw Event' for two weeks starting from the 16th. MyKT app users can participate by scanning the test QR code on the event page. Prizes such as the Galaxy Z Flip6, 10,000 KRW Naver Pay gift cards, and KT.com Shop Mobile gift certificates will be given through a lottery.

Lee Hyun-seok, Vice President and Head of KT Customer Division, said, "KT has launched the Safe QR Service to protect customers' personal information and prevent financial fraud," adding, "We will continue to strive to ensure that customers can enjoy safe communication life free from digital crimes such as spam and phishing."
