The aftermath of the emergency martial law has spread to the travel and aviation industries, causing related stocks to collectively weaken.
As of 9:56 a.m. on the 5th, Lotte Tour Development is trading at 8,340 KRW on the KOSPI, down 1.88% from the previous close. Overall travel stocks are declining, including Chamjoeun Travel (-3.62%), Norangpungseon (-2.09%), Redcap Tour (-1.98%), and Modetour (-1.67%), with only Hanatour (0.53%) showing an upward trend.
The airline stocks are similar. Major airlines such as Korean Air (-1.21%) and Asiana Airlines (-2.49%), as well as low-cost carriers like Jeju Air (-2.63%) and Jin Air (-0.83%), are all weak.
On the 3rd, following the emergency martial law declaration and lifting issue triggered by President Yoon Suk-yeol, major countries including the United Kingdom and Israel issued travel advisories.
The UK Foreign Office posted a warning on the Korea page of its country-specific travel advice on the 3rd (local time), stating, "We are aware of the situation unfolding after the declaration of martial law in Korea. Avoid political protests."
Israel issued a travel warning for Korea. On the night of the 3rd, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement advising its citizens to "consider the necessity of visiting this country."
New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs raised the travel advisory level for Korea from Level 1 to Level 2 due to the impact of the emergency martial law situation. On that day, New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs updated its travel safety website, raising the advisory for Korea from Level 1, "General safety and security precautions," to Level 2, "Exercise increased caution."
The U.S. Department of State included a link to the alert message from the U.S. Embassy in Korea on its Korea travel advisory page. On the morning of the 4th (Korean time), the U.S. Embassy displayed a red banner labeled "Alert" on its English website, urging, "Even after the lifting of the martial law by President Yoon Suk-yeol, the situation remains fluid. Avoid protest sites and exercise caution near large crowds, gatherings, and demonstrations."
