On the 5th, Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, once again brought up the card of President Yoon Seok-yeol's withdrawal from the party instead of impeachment. At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Han said, "As the party leader, I will try to prevent this impeachment from passing to avoid unprepared chaos and protect the people and supporters from harm," but added, "This does not mean I am defending the president's unconstitutional martial law. From the very first moment the martial law was declared, I have been with the people's anger and patriotism regarding this situation, and I will continue to stand with them."
Han, who met with the president the day before, said there was a difference in perception. Han said, "The president's perception of this situation was very different from mine and the people's, and it was difficult to empathize. The president said that the emergency martial law was inevitable due to the Democratic Party of Korea's violence, but unconstitutional and illegal emergency martial law cannot be justified."
Furthermore, Han emphasized that those involved in this emergency martial law, including the president and military officials, must be strictly held accountable. Han said, "Therefore, we must alleviate the public's anxiety that such an incident might happen again or that such an incident might be prepared again."
Han, who once again urged President Yoon to leave the party, said, "As the party leader, I demand once again," adding, "This incident greatly deviates from the spirit of liberal democracy." Earlier, Han had conveyed the proposal for the president's withdrawal at a party members' meeting the day before, but due to differing opinions, no conclusion was reached.
