Flight Attendant Park Seulji: "I Just Did What I Had to Do"
A train crew member from Korail Tourism Development saved a passenger's life through prompt emergency measures on a KTX train. According to Korail Tourism Development on the 4th, on the afternoon of the 23rd of last month, a guardian urgently requested help after discovering a male passenger in his 50s losing consciousness on KTX train 216 traveling from Dongdaegu Station to Seoul Station.

Park Seulji, a crew member from the Seoul Crew Office, who rushed to the scene after receiving the report, immediately informed the train team leader and fellow crew members of the situation, then promptly searched for a medical professional while starting cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). After about 5 minutes of continuous CPR, the patient fortunately regained breathing and pulse. Even after the train arrived at Gimcheon-Gumi Station, the crew carefully monitored the patient's consciousness to prevent deterioration and safely handed over the patient to paramedics, saving the passenger's life.
One of the passengers present at the scene left a message on Korail Tourism Development's 'Voice of Customers' board, saying, "Thanks to the quick and calm response of the female crew member when an emergency patient occurred on the train to Seoul, a major crisis was averted," and "I deeply thank all the crew members and passengers who did their best at that time." Park Seulji, the crew member who performed the emergency measures, said, "At that moment, I only thought about saving the passenger," and added, "Based on what I learned in the company's first aid training, I just did what I had to do for the safety of the passenger." Kwon Baeksin, CEO of Korail Tourism Development, said, "Thanks to the calm and swift response of the train crew, a precious life was saved," and "Beyond simple responsibility, we will continue to provide systematic education and support so that customers can always use the train with peace of mind."
Meanwhile, Korail Tourism Development conducts CPR and first aid training twice a year for its executives and employees. When the heart and lungs suddenly stop breathing, CPR must be performed as emergency treatment. If CPR is not performed within 4 to 5 minutes after cardiac arrest, brain damage occurs. Performing CPR at this time increases the survival rate by more than three times, making it the most important measure in an emergency. Typically, chest compressions should be performed by pressing down about halfway down the sternum on both sides of the chest, using the full body weight, at a rate of 100 times per minute, repeated 30 times for effectiveness.
