50th Anniversary International Conference Held

Lee Sun-ho, President of the Korea Securities Depository, is delivering a welcome speech at the commemorative event and international conference held on the 5th to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its founding.
On the 5th, Lee Sun-ho, President of the Korea Securities Depository (KSD), said this in his welcoming speech at the commemorative event and international conference held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the foundation, emphasizing, "Over the past 50 years, KSD has been a reliable partner in the financial market based on trust and innovation."
The conference, held under the theme 'Digital Innovation and the Future of Central Securities Depositories (CSDs)', consisted of a commemorative event celebrating KSD's 50th anniversary and featured speakers from domestic and international financial experts, academia, legal circles, and key financial authorities.
At the commemorative event, CEOs from related organizations including Yoon Han-hong, Chairman of the National Assembly's Finance and Economy Committee, Ham Yong-il, Deputy Governor of the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS), Korea Exchange, Korea Financial Investment Association, Korea Securities Finance Corporation, Koscom, Korea Institute of Finance, and Korea Deposit Insurance Corporation attended, along with CEOs from Euroclear Bank (ICSD), CSDs from nine Asian countries including Japan and Taiwan, and CEOs of domestic securities firms, asset management companies, and banks.
Ham Yong-il, Deputy Governor of the FSS, highlighted KSD's efforts and achievements toward the inclusion of Korean government bonds in the World Government Bond Index (WGBI), urging KSD to play a crucial role in strengthening global competitiveness amid the accelerating digital transformation of the future financial environment.
Jung Eun-bo, Chairman of the Korea Exchange, emphasized the cooperative relationship between the Korea Exchange and KSD that has continued for the past half-century, and called for the interest and support of market participants to improve the structure of the Korean stock market and upgrade the capital market amid the ongoing Korea discount.
Peter Sneyers, CEO of Euroclear Bank, noted that there are few CSDs worldwide with a long history of 50 years and stressed strengthening the partnership with KSD in the future, as exemplified by the opening of Korea's first integrated government bond account through close cooperation.
The conference was divided into two sessions, each conducted in the format of a keynote speech, panel presentations, and discussions between the chair and panelists.
The first session, themed 'The Spread of Digital Innovation and the Evolution of the Financial Industry,' began with a keynote speech by Albert Park, Chief Economist and Director General of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and was chaired by Julian Gordon, Vice President of the Linux Foundation Finance.
The second session, following a keynote speech by Yedil Medeu, Chair of the World Forum of CSDs (WFC), was led by Bryan Pascoe, CEO of the International Capital Market Association (ICMA). They discussed the outlook on the impact of the spread of digital innovation on CSDs and the desirable strategic directions for CSDs under the theme 'Adoption of Innovative Financial Technologies and CSD Responses.'
KSD stated, "We will continue to strengthen our role as a core infrastructure of the financial market and strive to establish ourselves as a global CSD leading the digital finance era."
