Choo Kyung-ho: "Yoon President Impeachment Opposition Party Policy Confirmed"

The People Power Party has decided to oppose the impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol, which is being pushed by the Democratic Party and other opposition parties.

On the 5th, after a closed-door party meeting, Choo Kyung-ho, the floor leader of the People Power Party, told reporters, "The People Power Party has confirmed opposition to the president's impeachment motion as the party's official stance."

Regarding whether the party will abstain from attending the plenary session following the party's opposition stance, he briefly replied, "Once the voting date is set, we will hold a party meeting to gather the consensus of the members and make a final decision." Kwak Kyu-taek, the senior spokesperson of the People Power Party, also emphasized, "We cannot accept the impeachment motion." When asked if the party had decided to oppose it as the official stance, he said, "Yes."

When asked whether Choo had consulted with Han Dong-hoon, the leader of the People Power Party, about the party's rejection, he explained, "I informed him. We worked together throughout the day, and I contacted him about the decision, but since I did not receive a reply, I sent a text message."

Regarding whether President Yoon Seok-yeol has accepted the resignation of the Minister of National Defense, he replied, "I have not yet been officially informed or am in a position to confirm."

Meanwhile, the day before, six opposition parties including the Democratic Party submitted the impeachment motion against President Yoon to the National Assembly, and it was reported to the plenary session in the early morning of this day. The impeachment motion must be voted on within 72 hours after 24 hours have passed since it was reported to the plenary session. It is expected that the vote will take place as early as the 6th or 7th.

The presidential impeachment motion will be passed if "a majority of the total members are present and two-thirds or more of the members present vote in favor."
