Iran has sent high-ranking military advisers to Syria, where the civil war is intensifying, according to the Iranian state-owned Arabic broadcaster Al-Alam on the 4th (local time).
According to the report, a military advisory group led by general-level officer Jawad Ghaffari arrived in Damascus, the capital of Syria, and began assisting the Syrian government forces' response.
In this regard, the dpa news agency introduced him as being called the "Butcher of Aleppo" after his contributions to the Syrian government forces' recapture of Aleppo in 2016.
He belongs to the elite Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and has mainly operated in Syria. He was known to be close to Qassem Soleimani, the IRGC Quds Force commander assassinated by the United States in 2020.
Iran, which supports the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria, is even discussing the possibility of deploying troops to Syria.
On the previous day, Abbas Araghchi, Iran's foreign minister, said in an interview with the Qatari media outlet Al Arabi Al Jadeed, "If the Syrian government wants troop deployment, we will consider their request."
