Diplomatic authorities have issued guidelines to all overseas missions to carry out their duties without disruption in relation to the 'martial law emergency situation.'
A Ministry of Foreign Affairs official told reporters on the 4th, "Guidelines have been issued to headquarters and all overseas missions to faithfully perform their assigned duties without being swayed by the domestic political situation." The official explained, "The basic line is to respond under the stance of carrying out their original duties without being shaken by the current situation."
Additionally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that when inquiries related to the matter come from foreign missions in Korea, the responsible departments are cooperating and maintaining necessary communication.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs official said, "Regarding diplomatic activities cooperating with the international community, including major countries, we are striving to continue cooperation and management without any disruption."
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yeol convened an emergency meeting with senior officials at the bureau and division chief level at the Government Seoul Office late at night after President Yoon Seok-yeol declared martial law. It is known that communication with missions in Korea was discussed, but the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not issued any further statements until the martial law is lifted.
