"All schools in Gyeongnam are operating normally without any disruptions."
Park Jong-hoon, Superintendent of Gyeongnam Office of Education, said this on the morning of the 4th regarding President Yoon Seok-yeol's declaration and lifting of martial law.
In a statement released that morning, Superintendent Park said, "Martial law was suddenly declared late yesterday for the first time in 45 years, but the National Assembly passed a resolution to lift the martial law early this morning, bringing the situation to a close."
He emphasized, "Currently, the academic schedules of all schools in Gyeongnam are operating normally," and added, "The right of children to receive education must be protected under any circumstances. This is a principle agreed upon by our society."
He continued, "Going forward, all schools should operate their curricula according to the planned schedules without any disruption," and said, "I will closely monitor and take extra care to ensure that no incidents occur that undermine the stability of education in all areas, including educational activities, meals, and safety."
The Gyeongnam Office of Education stated that immediately after the declaration of martial law the previous day, it established an emergency response system centered on the superintendent, directors, and department heads to monitor the situation.
At around 9 a.m. that day, an emergency directors' meeting was convened to reassess the situation of schools at all levels in the province and confirm the normalization of academic operations.
