Jinju City Launches Signature Campaign to Urge Legislation of the 'Aerospace Complex City Special Act'

Jinju City in Gyeongnam has launched a nationwide citizen signature campaign to expedite the National Assembly review and passage of the Special Act on the Construction of Aerospace Complex Cities.

On May 27, the Korea Aerospace Agency, the control tower for realizing South Korea's space economy vision, was inaugurated. With the opening of the 22nd National Assembly, Assemblymen Park Dae-chul and Seo Cheon-ho each proposed special bills for the construction of aerospace complex cities.

Jinju City is participating in a signature campaign urging the enactment of the 'Special Act on Aerospace Complex City' in front of the city hall civil service office.

The Special Act on the Construction of Aerospace Complex Cities aims to promote the development of the aerospace sector and strengthen national competitiveness by designating the location of the Korea Aerospace Agency and its surrounding areas as aerospace complex cities. The act stipulates special support measures for talent development within these cities, promotion of industry-academia-research cooperation, and attraction of domestic and foreign companies, personnel, and capital.

Citizens can participate in the signature campaign online via the Jinju City website or offline at Jinju City Hall Civil Service Office, Eup/Myeon/Dong Administrative Welfare Centers, Jinju Station, express and intercity bus terminals, libraries, the Complex Innovation Center, Innovation Support Center, and Jinju K-Entrepreneurship Center.

The city plans to promote the special act and collect legislative support signatures from as many institutions and organizations as possible, including public institutions relocated to the innovation city, local aerospace companies, the association of village heads, various groups, and councils, and deliver them to Sacheon City.

A Jinju City official stated, “This special act will serve as the foundation for designating the western Gyeongnam region, including Jinju and Sacheon, as an investment promotion district with tax support, thereby establishing the aerospace industry base.” He added, “We hope for active participation from Jinju citizens so that the aerospace complex city can be successfully established through the passage of this special act.”
