Democratic Party Likely to Submit Yoon Impeachment Motion Today... "Leaving the Party Is Not a Fundamental Solution"

Presidential Office Chiefs' Resignations Called "Running Away"

The Democratic Party of Korea expressed its intention to file an impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol, stating that the 'martial law' declared by President Yoon violates the Constitution and laws.

Cho Seung-rae, the chief spokesperson of the Democratic Party, met with reporters at the National Assembly main building on the morning of the 4th and said, "(The impeachment motion) is currently being prepared," adding, "The content is not that complicated." When asked if it was likely to be filed that day, he replied, "From what I hear, yes." Regarding consultations with the People Power Party, he said, "Isn't Han Dong-hoon, the leader of the People Power Party, still in the party meeting?" and added, "There hasn't been time to consult yet."

Cho criticized the collective resignation of the senior and chief secretaries of the presidential office after the martial law was lifted, calling it "cowardly escape." He added, "The president is being left in an increasingly ungovernable state while they all ran away," and questioned, "So are we just going to leave the president alone?"

Regarding suggestions within the ruling party about options such as 'President Yoon's withdrawal from the party,' he pointed out, "We are trying to decide whether it is right to let him (maintain) the presidency or not, so what meaning does party membership have?" Furthermore, he added, "Would this problem be solved if he withdrew from the party? It is not a fundamental solution."
