Spinal implant company L&K Biomed announced on the 4th that it signed a dealership contract in Uzbekistan last month to expand the market for height-expandable cages and secured the initial order quantity.
Through the dealership contract, L&K Biomed's height-expandable cage products will enter the Uzbekistan market. The company will also establish cooperative relationships to expand the market throughout Central Asia, using Uzbekistan as a base.
The product lineup includes a total of seven product groups, including the height-expandable cage product 'ExcelFix-XL' and the self-developed surgical instrument 'Retractor.' ExcelFix-XL is a height-expandable cage product for lumbar (lower back) use, designed for lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF) surgery, and received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2019. The self-developed Retractor is for minimally invasive surgery (MIS) and can be used with ExcelFix-XL as a lateral and anterolateral surgical instrument.
Dr. Abdufarrukh Karimov, who served as the first president of the Uzbekistan Spine Academic Foundation, was looking for a Korean company to supply cages and dedicated retractors related to lateral lumbar interbody fusion surgery and decided to sign a supply contract with L&K Biomed, the only company with self-developed products.
In October, Dr. Karimov personally visited Korea to verify the production process of ExcelFix-XL, the precise usage methods of the product, and its superior quality. He expressed strong interest in participating in the 'XTP Project,' a large-scale data collection project for the commercialization of ExcelFix-XTP.
An L&K Biomed official said, "Entering the Uzbekistan market is a very important first step to leading the spinal implant industry in the Central Asia region."
