Disclosure of Name, Age, Occupation, Address, and Arrears Details for Defaulters Over 1 Year and 10 Million Won
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) has disclosed the list of 40 high-amount and habitual local tax delinquents on the district website and Wetax (local tax internet payment system).
The disclosure targets are those who have failed to pay local taxes exceeding 10 million KRW for more than one year since the occurrence of the delinquency. For these individuals, information such as name, business name (corporate name), age, occupation, address, and details of the delinquency were made public.
The total amount of delinquent taxes for the disclosed high-amount and habitual delinquents is 870 million KRW. Among these, the delinquent amount newly determined for disclosure this year includes 86 million KRW for 5 individuals and 34 million KRW for one corporation.
Before disclosing the list, the district selected the disclosure targets at the local tax review committee in March. Subsequently, they encouraged voluntary payment and provided an opportunity to present explanations for six months.
The decision to disclose was comprehensively based on whether the delinquent amount was paid during the explanation period and the submitted explanatory materials, and was finalized after a re-examination by the local tax review committee.
Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, stated, “We have disclosed the list of high-amount and habitual delinquents to foster a culture of sincere tax payment in the community.” He added, “To ensure fairness with diligent taxpayers, we will firmly respond and take action against intentional tax delinquencies going forward.”
Along with the disclosure, the district entrusts the Korea Customs Service with the disposition of imported goods for high-amount and habitual delinquents who have the ability to pay but deliberately conceal assets or evade taxes, and imposes strong administrative sanctions such as travel bans. They are also conducting collection activities such as seizure of claims on deposits and salaries, and public auction disposition.
